zContest Announced
Posted by Ryan on 6 August 2011, 15:11 GMT

Seeing as how everyone loves a good programming competition, I am pleased to bring this bit of news to the ticalc.org community. zContest appears to be a ripe opportunity for ambitious programmers to get their work really noticed, with a lot of freedom in terms of platform, language, and theme. The three announced language categories are:

  • TI-Basic
  • TI-Basic extended / Axe Parser / BBC Basic
  • ASM
The platforms included are various models of the TI-82 through the TI-84+, and any theme of software entry is allowed under "games" and "utilities" subcategories. Make sure you check out the additional details over on the rules page, located here. The deadline for submission is set as December 1st, so get those programming fingers limber!

Or just use Google Translate. It messes up the grammar structure, but it works.

I used the link that Kevin gave but I still came on the french version. In the upper right corner of the webiste I noticed you could change language to English.

I never programmed on the z80 calcs. Maybe I should give it a try although I don't have much time at the moment.

You must register first;)
Then you will be able to create a new project with a comment and upload binary/text files associated.

"official" forum for the zcontest is yaronet (try yaronet z80 on Google )

(french and english spoken)

The entire zcontest site is translated by using "FR | EN" ( can't give URL it uses cookies ;)

Good luck everyone ;)

Should the entered game be in both English and French?

The game description should be both in french and english but you can just says "jeu assembleur" ou "jeu basic" ou "jeu axe parser" as french description and keep an english title in the french part.
No need to translate game content in french, it could be only in italian, dutch, german or english or as you want ;)
The goal of this contest is only sharing knowledge and enjoy programming :p

I'm thinking about something I could make. I have a question: Can I, for example, register at 30 november and then upload my file. Or must I register before a certain date and already post that I'm participating, or something like that?
Also once I posted at the website of zcontest what I'm making may I make it public what I'm doing?

Of course you can register in november the 30 if you want. Assembly or axe parser sources should be given in the final archive because judges also see the code.

I think it's a good choice to publy the source code because some other people often help by studying and correcting the code. In my own case, I have put my code on a public subversion repository (try "oilcap google code duponchelle" in google to see it)
To talk about the project, you can create a topic like this : www.yaronet.com/posts.php?s=142761
You can talk only english there's no problem :)

When you login at that website, when you go to 'Profile' you will see there you can add a project.

Here is the subforum dedicated to zcontest :
www.yaronet.com/sujets.php?f=3179
This is the best place to talk about the project.
The best choice is to create a new topic to talk about your project and post some screenshot etc...
In fact tiforge.info/zcontest3/ is "only" used to upload and submit the project (and explain rules and some stuff like this).

We are currently looking for sponsors to be able to give gifts to the winners.

There's currently 7 projects, and more upcoming soon (at least 2 or 3) but there's a lot of time remaining and probably a lot of new project soon...

Nobody's else interested? :)
