I'm about 99% sure thats illegal. You shouldn't have to though, anyone can convert their own music.

That would be totally illegal, just ask the RIAA if you don't believe me.

The RIAA isn't a exactly what one would normally consider a good entity to ask about matters about the legality of listening to music, don't you think?

Whom would you recommend we ask instead? I think the representatives of the copyright owners would be a pretty good group to discuss this with.

Most 'artists' are not the actual composers of the music, but rather the interpreters. It's just a business, quit worrying so much. :|

Ever heard of a mildly popular console called Sega Genesis?? ;) It's z80 was used for graphics and sound output, which was not bad for the time. One of these days I'm going to connect a TI84+ and TI-89T...

The Sega Megadrive (or, bizarrely and specifically, the "Genesis" in the US) had a Z80 processor for sound.
This doesn't mean that the Z80 actually output any sound, more like it controlled the Megadrive's sound hardware - the YM2612 chip from Yamaha.

In general, it would be illegal, unless the copyright holder has given you permission to make copies / derivative works. Generally, the RIAA doesn't give you these rights. :-)

As a result, ticalc.org won't accept uploaded copies of music. Obviously if it's music of your own, you could theoretically give ticalc.org permission to distribute it, but if you want to do this, e-mail filearchive@ticalc.org first to make sure everything is straightened out.

Also, I agree with the first part of what you said - I don't think anyone's going to decide not to buy a CD just because they've found all the songs as apps. If anything, people will download calc songs, find new bands that they like, and buy their music. Unfortunately, the RIAA probably wouldn't see it that way...

I'm pretty sure that most people would want to use ipods, mp3 players, ect, ect, and buy the good quality songs instead of listening to one or two 8-bit songs on they're calcs all day! Still nice work, very good program!

For the few of us (maybe only me?) who like classical music, the advantage is that most of it is in the public domain because it is so old. Performances of it may not be though...you would have to render it with a free soundfont (or decent card) either from a PD or free MIDI or from the original sheet music (make your own MIDI or play it...though the latter would only work with small things that require at most about 2 instruments). Still, much better than trying to find some legal way of using more modern music publicly (i.e. no hope at all).

Nice job! 1.0 lives up to the betas. My only criticism is the huge size of the apps, but I know that's unavoidable. :)
