Desolate RPG Released
Posted by Michael on 9 March 2004, 23:02 GMT

[Desolate] A million people have e-mailed me about a new RPG for the TI-83 called Desolate. The basic features are: grayscale, 26 items, 7 puzzles, 70 rooms, 2 different enemies, and a partridge in a pear tree. Well, minus that last item. The Venus shell is required to run the game. A 83 Plus version is planned shortly.

My sentiments exactly - BTW, it's weird that it's for Venus; hardly anything is anymore.

Venus is the best shell on TI-83.

And especially in this case, it has proven its usefulness, because a ION version of Desolate wouldn't have been possible for space issues.

What are you talking about? Venus is the newest shell around. You might be confusing it with AShell, SOS or something along those lines.

He might be confused because so few games are made for the regular 83, and they usually are featured as their 83+ versions in MirageOS or antoher 83+ shell.

I agree. The animated screenshot of the game looks great.

If you think that the 83+ version isn't going to be released,,, don't worry. there's just a few bugs needed to be ironed out before general consumption :)

Actually, I've played both versions, 83 and 83+...Duck's Greyscale code is still going strong, and looks fine even on a non-SE. Tr1pl3a has made good use of the package, and done some really fine sprite work as well--the graphics are really admirable for what they are. Check it out!

VTI always looks good, on calc could be a different story...

Actually, I have the game on my ti-83, consuming all of it's memory :) but the grayscale in that game is really really nice, vti screenshots are obviously going to be better, because they are on the computer, but the calc can still rival the vti...great game

One thing about VTI that, except for pong or other projectile games, makes it better is that there isnt a delay in turning off pixels. What I mean is that when a ball moves across the screen on the real calc, it leaves a trail because the pixels turn off slowly, but on vti this doesnt occur. This makes less blurring in fast paced action games, but takes away some of the effect of pong type games.

Well... on a real calc it still looks cool... but then more greenish... just like the old GameBoy :)

Anyway... this is one of the best games I _EVER_ played on the calc... It's just a must-have for every one with a 83(+)... Even if the game would only be b/w, the gameplay is so good and the story really is keeping you playing!

u have two different planes, and you are just switching back and forth between them, so it appears to be gray
