Virtual TI-89/92(+) v1.0 Beta released
Posted on 27 December 1998, 00:35 GMT

Rusty Wagner has released Virtual TI-89/92(+) v1.0 Beta for Windows. This is an emulator for all 68k based TI calculators, which includes the TI-89, TI-92, TI-92 II, and TI-92 Plus. This emulator has many great features, here are just a few:

  • ROM versions are automatically detected
  • Switch between ROM versions without restarting the emulator
  • Archive memory support for TI-89 and TI-92 Plus
  • Send files to the calculator
  • Use a TI Graph-link cable to connect to a real TI-89 or TI-92
  • Save and load the state of the calculator. Any changes to the Flash ROM will be included in the state
  • 4-level and 7-level grayscale support
  • Bitmap of the calculator with clickable buttons

You will need a ROM dump of your calculator to use this emulator. Since it is illegal to distribute them on the Internet, you will have to dump your own. The emulator includes a built-in ROM dumper for use with a TI-89 or TI-92 Plus. If you have a TI-92, you can use one of the various ROM dummping programs on this site.

Rusty has also released the source code for his emulator program. It requires C++Builder 3 to compile.

If you haven't noticed already, ticalc.org uploaded a bug-free version an hour ago.

Awesome emulator, if it worked.

I finally got a ROM dump (I have a 92 v1.3 so I had to do the old fashioned method), and now the emulator works. But I seem to have 128K more memory than I should. I only have the TI-92, which only has 128K. The TI-92 II, AFAIK, has 256K. Is the emulator thinking I have the 92 II?

Also, I cannot send files. I keep getting errors. Is this related to the mistaken calc problem? Perhaps it is wanting a 92 II .92? file instead of what I have. It would certainly explain why I can't send a backup. My backups are for a 128K memory, not a 256K memory.

Does anyone else have problems like these?

This emulator is really (really) well done, but too slow (too slow) on my P166 (it runs at half the speed of the real Ti92) whereas Tiger runs at twice and Emu92 six times the speed of the real Ti92 (II, Plus).

I must admit their debuggers are not very good, but I can test programs in real time (Tiger has a feature to change the emulation speed), using DB92p (the plus version) .

I tell people who doesn't already know it : Tiger and Emu92 can emulate Ti92 Plus and even Ti89 (but the keyboard is special for this last).

I don't think the emulator will run at full speed even if you got a Pentium II 450.

I might consider getting a TI-92+ emulator.

My Pentium II 400 MHz was TOASTING my real 92. I noticed that the APD was a little quick. I had a simple 3D graph (z = sqr(x^2+y^2), aka cone) and the emulator soared by.

There should really be a speed control. Otherwise games will run TOO fast; and programmers can't judge performance issues if the emulator is faster than the real thing.

The 89 emulator is really nice, though.

I am using Virtual TI-89/92(+) to emulate my 89. Unfortunately, it runs way to slowly on my 120 mhz Pentium. Is there any way I can get a faster emulator for the 89? How can I use Emu92 to emulate an 89? If anyone knows, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Cool program. Finally I can mess around with 68k asm without the risk of crashing my real calc.

DoorsOS on emulator?
RSG
(Web Page)

Can you run DoorsOS on the emulator? I pressed F10 in the emulator, and opened the doorsos.89z file, then typed doorsos at the home screen, but it just said "Error: Non algebraic variable in expression".
What am I doing wrong?
thanks.

I tried it and it worked. You probably have a TI-92 rom. DoorsOS needs a TI-92+ or 89.

Nope. It is an 89 rom, I am sure. I am going to try what the other person suggested about the parenthesis at the end.
I don't have an 89, so I don't know the details on this stuff, but I am going to buy one as soon as Staples gets some. Last month they got a huge shipment of 5 and they haven't got any since. I would buy it online, but I want to be able to exchange easily (I had to exchange my 86 4 times when I got it 2 years ago because I kept messing it up).

Did you forget the parenthesis at the end?

Re: DoorsOS on emulator?

Okay, I tried it again after reseting memory and it still wouldn't work. This is what I did exactly: Hit F10, loaded Doorsos.89z. At homescreen, typed "doorsos".
I get the same Non algebraic variable in expression error. I also tried typing it with parenthesis, but I got the same error.
Help.

Stop. Take a breath. What is the syntax for a program? (I don't know if that's what you're supposed to run. I tried running it once using the ps browser and kernel installed, and the second time my calculator crashed. Well I didn't read the documentation! [where is kow-man?])

Re: Re: Re: DoorsOS on emulator?

By FAR, the simplest way to run this EMU is with the flash ROM straight from TI.(Only if you OWN the calc though, I guess) To run programs, I use the newest plusshell kernel and libs with the Doors explorer and libs. Some progs (i.e. Tetris) need to be converted with the plusshell converter, but that's nothing big. Press F10 to send the file to the calc, then just type the name followed by (), or ,better yet, go into your browser and run it from there :-) I have never once crashed the emu, but maybe I'm just lucky. This thing really is a gawd-send.

BTW--what is AFAIK or whatever?

An updated version of Tetris has been uploaded. According to Joel, the 2-player glitch is fixed and it is now compatible with Plusshell 1.0a. (I should have saved his e-mail for verification!)

Yes, it's easiest to use the Flash ROM. (It's not like they're gonna check to see if you are pirating their code, though.)

I know someone must know this so what is a good program for dumping the rom for a 92 that uses the homemade parallel port link?

Extracting VTi68k_s.zip
Every time, I try to extact the source-Code i get the message bad CRC 2a77c040 (should be 0b879e00)
Is there a undamaged version of the sourc-Code ?
