Attention span: 9/10 Levels are challenging and many.
Controls: 10/10 Oh boy... Left/right, 2nd/Alpha...
Implementation: 7/10 Main area that needs improvement.
Overall: 8/10 With some fixes, could be better.

Well, this game has its goods and bads. I'll start with the good parts, I suppose. Hard Hat Mack Gets a Big Gun II (full name) is quite fun, really. There is definitely a steep learning curve, but overall it's quite entertaining; definitely try this game at least. The premise of Hard Hat Mack is a bit odd: you're a guy with a big gun who is on a quest to find the Holy Grail (?!). Except there isn't just one Holy Grail. In fact, there are dozens. To complete each level, you must find a certain number of Holy Grails. However, you must deal with enemies, sad faces that steal your Grails, a time limit, and the fact that you can't jump very well (which isn't really a bad thing, you just can't jump high like Mario can). The game starts off fairly easy (but you do have to learn how to play pretty well before you progress) but the levels get very challenging. I am currently on level 13, and there are 15 grails. You need 17. I have no idea what to do. That's how hard it gets ;)

Anyway, now I have to list the down sides. There aren't many things wrong with the game concept, just some odd bugs among other things. You can't really shoot, then jump. If you do, your bullet will hang in midair until you complete the jump. This can result in some weird scenarios in which you can shoot yourself, or a bullet can pass through an enemy. Also, when Mack is standing on a ledge, he will sometimes fall through the platform on which he is standing. Sometimes when you load a saved game (you can only save from level 4 and higher, btw--not a bug) the right side of the screen (which tells you your score, time remaining, number of Grails needed, lives, and ammo) doesn't refresh, leaving a bunch of random pixels, words, and numbers. This doesn't really do any harm, but it's a bit annoying. After this happens, the 'debris' will remain for all subsequent games, even if you clear your save and restart. Also, this game could _really_ benefit from a level editor. Note that this is not a detraction from the game, but rather a suggestion. The game is also pretty big (over 6500), but I'm really enjoying it so that doesn't bother me too much. I don't keep that many games on my calculator anyway, but this might bother some people...

All in all, Hard Hat Mack 2 is a pretty fun game, with just a few things that need to be cleaned up. Size is an issue, but the game is worth it in my opinion, so I'm not going to make a judgement either way (obviously some people would rather have more games).
