Attention span: 4/10 Lacks replay value
Controls: 8/10 Fairly good
Implementation: 6/10 Still beta
Overall: 5/10 Causes crashes

Defender is a side scrolling game which loosely resembles Galaxian. The point of the game is basically to shoot down the alien ships you encounter, while dodging their fire. The graphics of the game are simple, thereby keeping the speed of the game reasonable and smooth. The amount of enemies that are included are limited, and the gameplay is simple. This game is not without its problems. I found that after running this game, other asm games in my calc would not run and give me an error message. Also, I found that there was really no point in playing the game, because the number of cities left to defend never seemed to decrease after I cleared one. There is also no high score keeper, and the graphics are repetitive. While this game was fun to play in the beginning, I found that there was no reason to continue playing it. The fact that it also rendered other games on my calc temporarily also made this game unappealing.

In short, I can not recommend this game to anyone unless they were looking for a quick shooter that has almost no point. I hope that this game will be updated and improved, but no one can tell. This game lacks replay value, and is uninspiring and not recommendable to most gamers.

The author of this one did a fantastic job of porting it. You will enjoy this game just as much as the original Atari game, I guarantee it. The speed, enemies, and concept are all intact and fully implemented, just like the original. If you liked Defender, you will like this one without question. 9/10
