Introduction:

This is a program that will calculate your biorhythms. Biorhythms is the science of predicting what days you will feel energetic or lazy, happy or sad. They were discovered around the turn of the 20th century. Two different scientists, Dr. Hermanna Swoboda and Dr. Wilhelm Fliess, made the discovery independently around that time. Many other scientists have confirmed it to be true. Every human has three cycles that begin at birth: the physical cycle, the emotional cycle, and the intellectual cycle. The cycles look similar to sine waves when plotted on paper. The physical cycle has a period of 23 days, the emotional 28, and the intellectual 33. Biorhythms are not related to horoscopes, and they have nothing to do with astrology.

Usage:
(Notice: This program will change your graph settings and use y1, y2, and y3.)
Type BIORHYM to start the program. It will first ask you for your birthday. Use a four-digit year. Enter the month as a number. Then, it will ask you for today's date. Type it in the same way, remembering to use a four-digit year. After a pause, it will tell you how many days old you are, and begin plotting the graph.

The vertical line on the left side of the screen represents today's date. Each tick on the horizontal axis represents one day later. You will also see the days of the week on the bottom of the screen. Directly to the left and straight up from each date abbreviation is the tick on the horizontal axis that represents that day (it's easier than it sounds, take out your calculator and try it!)

You will also see three curved lines: The thick physical line, the solid emotional line, and the dotted intellectual line. Just in case you forget which line is which, each line is labeled with a P, I, or E. If a line is high, it means that you will have a good day in that aspect. If a line is low, you will have a slow or bad day. If the line crosses the horizontal axis, you will have a critical day. Critical days are days when your body is in a state of transition between high or low. Studies have shown then there is a 30-60% greater risk of an accident on a critical day! Be more cautious on a critical day, you are accident-prone. If you have multiple critical lines on the same day, be especially careful.

If the physical line is high, you will be full of energy, if it is low, you will be lazy and tired. If the intellectual line is high, you will feel smart and think better, if it is low, you will have more trouble thinking. If the emotional line is high, you will be more likely to be happy, if it is low, you may be sad. If the physical line crosses the center, you may be very clumsy and prone to making mistakes. If the emotional line does, you may have a very angry day or feel more sad. If the intellectual one does, you may make stupid mistakes and errors in reasoning.

Using the results:

The biorhythm graph remains in your graph memory even when you quit. You can save the results as a picture or GDB if you want to see them without running the program. You can even adjust the range to fit more days in one screen.

Other applications:

Find the day of the week for any date: Type in the date that you want to figure for both "today's date" and "birth date". The day of the week is shown as the leftmost day indicator on the graph screen.

Find out how many days old you are: This information is displayed whenever you create a biorhythm.

Find out how many days are in-between any two dates: Type the earlier date for "birth date" and the later one for "today's date". You can push ON to interrupt the biorhythm plotting with no ill effects, you probably don't need to wait for it. Notice that the starting date is not counted when counting days: If you type in 3/2 and 3/3, it will say 1, not 2.

Example:
I was born on January 3rd, 1983. I want to see my biorhythm for January 5, 1996. I run the program and type:
1
3
1983
1
5
1996
The program shows that I am 4750 days old and begins plotting. The graph shows that on the 5th (the left side of the screen), I'm not having such a great day. I am feeling tired, emotionally down, and less intellectually sharp. But, the 7th (Sunday) is even worse. My intellectual line is crossing the critical line, which means that I am more prone to make errors in thinking that day. On the 10th (Wednesday), I am doing better. The high intellectual line indicates that I will be thinking clearly that day.

Dates: This program is Y2K compliant, calculates all leap years correctly, and works for all dates past 1582. Unlike many other biorhythm programs, it will correctly figure dates before 1900. So, if a pre-1900 biorhythm is one day off of another program's, this program is probably right! (1900 is not a leap year, but some programs figure it as being one.) Why do you need to go that far back? Now you can see if biorhythms or critical days played a part in historical events.

Customizing:

Because this program is not edit-locked, you may want to customize it to make it easier and faster to use. One thing that you probably want to do is to hard-code your birthday and possibly today's year in to save time. This is easy to do, all you need to do is change the first few lines of the program. If you know what the solid, thick, and dotted lines stand for, you may want to stop the P/I/E indicators from drawing to clean up the display. To do this you would remove the three "text" commands from the end. Do NOT distribute any version modified in any way, and do not remove the copyright message! If you want to distribute the program, include all four files in unmodified form. Do not "cut and paste" code out of this and put it in your own program. If you want to look at this program as a "starting point" for writing your own biorhythm or date-related program, go right ahead. The code may be a little hard to follow, though. Hint: Where you see the five blank lines, the only variables that need to carry over the next "section" of the program are L, S, TM, TD, and TY.

Have fun! If you find any bugs, contact me (I'll be very interested in hearing about any error message or bug that you find)

If you like this program, try my other biorhythm program: Personal compatibility tester! It will compare the biorhythms of two people and tell you how similar they are. This can give insights as to how well they will get along.

Disclaimer:
Do not entrust important matters to biorhythms! Although they are usually accurate, they might not be in your case. I am not responsible for anything that happens as a result of using this program or the results generated.
