=====================
when you first start the program you are taken to the title screen menu. Here you may set
the player type for each player. use the side arrows to select a player, the up and down arrows
select a player type. the available types and there descriptions follow:

TYPE:             DESCRIPTION:
=====             ============
--- Player will not appear in game
PLR               Human controlled player.
AI1-AI9 Computer controlled player. skill levels from 1 to 9 are available.,

after you have made your selections, press 2nd to continue. if you would like to quit press Clear.
After your press 2nd the playing field will load. This is separated into 2 sections: the field itself and information. In the top bar you will see something like this:

--------------------------------------------------------------
TURN:    PWR:|===============================================|
--------------------------------------------------------------

the TURN: displays tells who's turn it is. the PWR: display indicates how much power will be used to hit the ball. it corresponds roughly to the actual pixel distance the ball will travel. (this display is only used for human controlled players, it may be adjusted using the Up and Down arrow keys).

Below these displays you will see a box. this will display which players you have hit since the last time you went through a wicket. hitting one of these players a second time without passing through a wicket will not give you extra turns or affect your shot. (this is the only place in which Croquet 83+ differs from real croquet. in real croquet hitting someone you have already hit instantly ends your turn).

Finally in the bottom right hand corner of the screen is the aim display.
use the side arrow keys to adjust the angle of your shot.

the rest of the screen is the the playing field. if your ball leaves the playing field you turn is over. it consists of 2 pegs (on at each end of the field) and 9 wickets. your ball and the wicket you should be aiming at are flashing. each ball is identified by the first letter of its color.starting from the left most peg, you must left through the 2 left most wickets, then the bottom left wicket, the center wicket, the bottom right wicket, the 2 right most wickets, and then hit the peg (the pegs can be hit from any side). after that, you must pass right through the 2 right most wickets, the top riht wicket, the center wicket, the top left wicket and the 2 left most wickets, finally hitting the left most peg. upon passing through a wicket you get an extra hit. if you pass through 2 wickets, you get 2 extra hits. however if you hit the peg you are reset to only one extra hit. hitting another player's ball gives you 2 extra hits. this will also cause your ball to ricochet and the other player's ball will absorb some of the energy of your shot. after you hit someone's ball, you must pass through another wicket, or a hit a peg before you can hit them again. remember, you must pass through the wickets in the order listed.

In game controls:
