Golf Solitaire

By Eric Lantz, Maintained Online by Michael Bendzick

The object of golf solitaire is to remove all of the cards from the upper part of the screen. This is done by matching a card at the bottom of any column with a card that is numerically right next to the card in that column. (The order of the cards is A, 2-10, then J-K, and you may not jump from K to A.) The cards to do the matching with are in the 'pile' 2nd from the left (termed 2nd pile from here on)on the bottom of the screen. The number or letter on top of that 'pile' is the value of the card. The number above the very left 'pile' (the 1st pile) is the number of cards available to be drawn. If a card is drawn, the new card will be displayed in the 2nd pile. A memory of previously drawn cards is not kept, instead a random card is shown.

The startup screen will resemble the picture to the lower left (the arrow will not be there, it is just there to point for the sake of these directions). Looking at the card in the 2nd pile, we see that the only card in the bottom row of the cards on the upper portion of the screen that matches the card in the 2nd pile is the '9'. To select the '9' card, simply push the number 3 (for column 3) without pressing enter. The columns are numbered left to right, 1-7. The screen would then resemble the picture to the lower right, with the '9' card gone from the bottom of column 3.

To draw another card for the 2nd pile, press the enter key. If the number above the 1st pile is zero, then there are no cards left to draw. If there are cards remaining at the top of the screen, and there are no cards left to be drawn, the game will end. If you remove all of the cards from the top of the screen, then you win.
