TI-89 Programs Data Regressions (datareg) and Data Correlations (datacorr) Description Both programs find the correlations of linear, exponential, and variation functions. Datareg also gives more options like finding the equation of the best-fit function, graphing the best-fit function, and finding all of the functions. Datacorr is a cut-down version of Datareg and quits after it displays the correlations. ***To run datareg and datacorr, the file datareg2 is required. *** Start the program. 1. Before you begin, make sure you created a data variable and entered the data in the TI-89 data editor. 2. In the Home screen, Press 2ND and – to get to VAR-LINK. 3. Highlight the datareg (or datacorr) and press enter. 4. “datareg(“ should appear in the Home Screen. Press the right parenthesis “)” resulting in “datareg()”. 5. Press ENTER Data Setup 1. Wait few seconds while the program searches for data variables in every folder. 2. When the data setup screen appears, choose your data file. 3. Next, if needed change the location of the X and Y columns. 4. Press ENTER. Correlations 1. The program will find the data regressions and display just the correlations for the 3 types of functions. It will also display the best-fit function (incase all correlations are very close to +-.999999 and there was a round off error) 2. Next, choose to view the Best Fit Equation, Graph of the Best Fit Equation, All Equations, or Quit. 3. Press ENTER Best Fit Equation 1. The type of function is first displayed, followed by the standard equation for that type of a function. 2. Then, the a and b coefficients and correlation are displayed. 3. Next, choose to view the Graph of the Best Fit Equation, All Equations, or Quit. 4. Press ENTER. Graph of Best Fit Equation 1. Wait few seconds while the points are plotted and the best-fit equation is graphed. 2. The user is unable to perform any actions with the graph at this point. To have the full control, follow the next steps and choose quit. After the program quits, go to GRAPH. 3. Press ENTER to continue 4. Next, choose to view All Equations or Quit. 5. Press ENTER. All Equations 1. The three types of functions are displayed along with their standard equation and the regression coefficients. 2. Press ENTER to quit. Additional Notes: The program will leave a couple of variables after running: Fdlst1 and 2 – Used for plotting the points RegCoef and RegEq – Used for graphing the equation
