Monkey Type v1.0 Author: JOnathan Pezzino Genre: Miscellaneous Graphics Program/Screensaver (?) Completed: 1/12/04 Instructions for Sending to Calc/Using Program: -Send to calc using TI Connect or similar software -Select and run the program after hitting the [Prgm] key -Press [On] to stop the program ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Summary- You may have heard the theory that if you give 1,000 monkeys 1,000 typewriters and 1,000 years, they will eventually reproduce the works of Shakespeare by randomly banging on the keyboard as monkeys tend to do. Sound crazy? Well, you can now test this theory yourself with this unique program. It loosely simulates a monkey slamming on a keyboard by randomly choosing characters of the alphabet and punctuation marks (including spaces) and continuously displaying them. Yes, I realize the monkey could pee on the computer/typewriter, break it ignore it, etc., etc., but I haven't written a computer-smashing simulator yet (hmmmmm. that has possibilities). This program is great for any bored student, because it provides amusement without the user having to input anything, and thus avoiding a teacher's suspicion. The user continues to appear to be innocent of playing games when they press the [On] button, because the screen appears as if the calc were just turned on after the program stops. For the same reason, it is very easy to just sit and watch the letters come out one by one, watching the ridiculous words and phrases form as you lazily daydream. This program will also provide you with many laughs - there can be some pretty strange words it types up. For the scientifically minded, see if you can prove or disprove this theory by giving the program to everyone in the school and having them run it throughout the whole school day, and report findings of coherent words/sentences/(?)books produced by the program. *What the program will appear like and what it actually does:* As soon as you hit [Enter] to begin the program, the screen will clear and small-font letters will slowly start to appear from the upper-left-hand corner. They will continue to type out just like any normal word processor, moving down lines and clearing the screen when it is filled up, only to continue the previous process. If you want to stop the program for whatever reason, simply press [On] and [Enter] on the ensuing menu. If the program produces an especially juicy word/sentence/phrase/whatever you can stop the program and store a pic. This will save the current typing on the screen. The program functions by choosing a random interger, storing a corresponding character (based on the interger) into a string, displaying it on the graph screen, making the appropriate adjustments in terms of spacing and lines, and repeating the process. Pretty simple. *Some amusing words/phrases this program produced while I was testing it:* U HAG cheatin u kin Rafe [as in the boy's name]? Ninni. The abbreviations of many months of the year. Many funny and strange sounding made up words. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Redistribution, etc.- Enjoy using this program and sending it to your friends' calcs as well. I realize my name is nowhere inside the code, so don't be an ass and stick yours in there. You may modify this code granted you give me credit as the original author in some form or another. I'd love to see what you do with the program, especially if you post it on a site or give it to a large number of people, so feel free to email me you work! THANKS FOR TRYING THIS PROGRAM BY JONATHAN PEZZINO! *note: this program is very similar to one of my previous programs, "GRAPHIC", so check it out to see a variation on this program incoporating various mathematical symbols into the monkey's keyboard
