******PRO BOWL TYPE 2******* (V.1 / 14JAN02) for TI-83+ / by Taren Nauxen *Programmed in TI-83+ BASIC* **************************** +++Why "TYPE 2"? I like things to be challenging. Games that are too easy are not as much fun. It just so happened that, with the right shot, it's almost impossible to fail at Pro Bowl Type 1. I shot 300-300-279 and decided it was time to make it a little harder. This version includes changeable lane condition, too. CUT-AND-DRIED PROCEDURE: Run APBOILER. (It's "oiler", not "boiler"!) Select pattern from left, hit enter, select length from right, hit enter. Archive APBOILER and APROBOWL (if applicable) but leave APRZSPRE and APRZSTRK in RAM. Run APROZOIL. It's that easy. Preface: One of the first programs I ever had on my calculator was bowling, mainly since it was one of the only games (along with Drug Wars) roaming the school. To make a long story short, I got fed up with a cheap theta for a ball and decided it was high time for the TI-83+ to have a decent bowling game. Notes: If the game seems overly complicated or strange, that's probably because it was written from an adept bowler's perspective. This game allows the player to customize their shot, be it a crank shot or a smooth roll. What a mess! The screen has a lot of nonsense on it, and if you don't read this, you could be overwhelmed. App: (Approach) Where your feet are aligned, and more importantly, this is where the ball begins. Adjust with F1 and F2. Board-Target: Where the ball is being aimed (X-coordinate). Adjust with left and right, but remember that the Approach coordiate makes a line with this stat. NOTE: For all you Pro Bowl Type 1 veterans out there, notice that the Y-coordinate ("Break Point") is frozen. This makes things a little harder. Hook: How do you curve a ball? This is how. With the F4 and F5 buttons, you can change your shot from straight (nothing shown) to huge hook, either lefty or righty. The number of < or > signs shows how much the ball will react. When you're ready, hit ENTER! A meter will appear in the top-right corner. The bar will fill up until you hit Enter again or it goes to the end of the screen. Optimally, you want to stop these meters exactly on where you see the notch above and below the lines. These meters determine the accuracy of your shot, and can determine whether you get a strike or a nasty split! The ball rolls down the lane, and hits the pins (hopefully). The triangle to the right of the pin deck shows what's left up. Ones represent pins left up; zeros, knocked down. IMPORTANT! After the ball is released, it's important not to press Enter again until you're ready to bowl, or the meter will begin, and there's no way to stop it. After your second ball (or strike, as the case may be) "Wait..." will appear on your screen. You can't continue until it says "Action!", and then press Enter. Continue for all ten frames, and good luck rolling that 300... --- Summary of button know-how: F1: Moves approach left one. F2: Moves approach right one. F3: Resets stats back to last strike shot taken. (useful after shooting a spare!) F4: Adjusts hook one more left (or one less right). F5: Adjusts hook one more right (or one less left). UP arrow: Moves break point farther down the lane. DOWN arrow: Moves break point farther from the pins. LEFT arrow: Moves target one left. RIGHT arrow: Moves target one right. ENTER: Initiates/Stops accuracy meter. --- Q: "Why is the score wrong? I got a strike, and it gives me only ten!" A: The scoring system adds up EVERYTHING at once, so if you look the next frame, the score will have changed. --- -------- ------------ 1 1 2 1 2 3 --- -------- ------------ X| X| X| X| X|9 /| | --> | | --> | | | 10| 20| 30| 29| 49| 59| --- -------- ------------ Q: "My ball HIT the pin, but it kept on going! What is going on?" A: Unfortunately, at times (especially if you set the hook up high) the ball will seem to go through or at least graze a pin, and continue right into the gutter. It's a nasty side effect of how I set up the "hit" algorithm. The only way around it is to play less of a hook or a plain, straight shot. There are 43 spares for your enjoyment in Pro Bowl, including the bucket, several washouts, the irritating ten-pin, and the infamous 7-10... and they're ALL possible to pick up! Frustrated on how to pick up those darn spares? Check out the other file included. +++FRUSTRATED? After a few shots, you'll probably wonder what the heck is going on with the lanes. I've also included one button that shows exactly where the oil is, but I won't say which one it is. It draws a line where the oil ends and the dry begins. The oil is below the line; the dry is above it. Version 1 (Original Release): After several releases and updates among friends at school, I thought it would be good to release this online, too. **************************** Questions, comments, suggestions, ideas on how to make the file smaller? Got a 300 game? x12x300x@aol.com **************************** If you really want to tell me about your 300 game(s), I don't mind. Just make sure you include the oil pattern number and (if possible) the statistics of the line you were playing. (Approach, Target, Hook is all.)
