Probably shouldnt use a high power infrared laser like that. A visible light 
laser wont burn anything, but shorter wavelengnths are better anyway. A vl 
laser is generally better than an ir laser. A blue laser is better than red 
(some of the upcomming 300x+ cdroms use blue lasers) and uv is better yet. 
The disadvantage is power.
