You mentioned the trigger signal is 9vdc. What did you plan on attaching
to the output?

Assuming that you wanted to control some mains-powered (ie, 120 vac
appliance) beast, you'd definitely need a relay in your circuit. For
that, I would suggest the SCR because you could get an SCR, a 9vdc power
source, relay with a 9vdc coil, and a momentary SPST switch. Put them all
in series and take the trigger signal from wherever and tie it to the gate
on the SCR. Then you're all set: When the signal hits the gate, it turns
the SCR on and engages the relay. The relay stays on until the switch is
pushed, and whatever is on the relay contacts is on for that time also.
