As far as I know, Ensoniq makes the best cards I've seen (or heard?) so 
far.  The AudioPCI is the newest, and it's really good.  I have 3 of 
these cards and they sound really good (well, one of them's an older 
Ensoniq card...)  The best part is the card is <$50!  If you really want 
to stick with Creative though, you can buy one of Creative Labs' PCI 
cards, which are the Ensoniq ones with different stickers and a ~$90 
price tag (they bought Ensoniq).

And I have plenty of MP3s and VQFs (and the CDs I copied them off of ;) 
on my computer and they almost CD clear (so far they are recorded at 
128KBps and 44KHz...
