I was thinking about this too, except that none would be slaves.  Go to 
www.jameco.com, they have some 6MHz for about 1.50 and some 4MHz for 
1.75(i think).

Some where somebody said about dual port RAM.  Dallas Semicondutor has 
some 256 byte ones.  it's part # DS1609.  goto 
http://www.dalsemi.com/DocControl/PDFs/1609.pdf for the data sheet.  
Check it out, it's cool.
