Sorry to say, but if you really manage to screw up you might well make
your calculator unusable by destroying something important. I spoilt a
TI-85 by having it in a bag with a bottle of lemonade which leaked, and
that taught me a bit of how fragile it really is. Just poke your
soldering iron or e.g. a knife in the wrong place and your calc is gone.
But if you have the money, promise them that you will buy a new one if
you destroy yours.

I think the SPinTerface is easier to build than the acceleration. After
all, to accelerate your calc you need to tinker with small parts (the
capacitor C9) on its main board.
