Did you try it out? I run my -85 off 4 1.2V Ni-Cads.. runs fine.
And on an old -81 (had a short that ate batteries in less than a week) I
hooked it up to an external AC-DC adapter, and it was too dark at 6 V..
only got visible at 4.5V.
