The only problem with such a program is that the processor speed is
affected greatly by temperature and battery voltage.  It will continue
to work below 5 volts, but slower.  So there's really no way to obtain a
'calibrated' condition unless you calibrated it right before you used
it, at the same temperature that it was calibrated at.

You could mount a surface-mount clock chip inside the case, and connect
it to the port(or even the processor), and that would be much better for
timing applications.  You could have an external one as well, but
where's the fun in that??
