I had a German teacher once who told us about an essay a former student
of hers had written. At a point in the essay two people meet and greet
each other. Not remembering how it was in German, he looked it up _IN AN
OUTDATED DICTIONARY(!)_ and found: "Heil", common German expression
meaning "hello" or "hi there".
Imagine the teacher's reaction when reading a 1980's essay with a 1940's
"Heil" totally inappropriately used. :-)
