How do I simplify square roots correctly on my TI-89 ??

sq= square root symbol

When I enter sq(24b^7)  It does not simplify this correctly.  It spits out an
answer of sq(3b^7*2 3\2)   Does anyone know why it does this?  The the answer
that I am looking for is 2b^3(6b)   Please help!  E-mail me your response...
