It's true that there seems little use for the 86, it seems that the 89
pretty much does everything it can do for a little more money.  The 83
is the "classroom standard", so it sells a lot (math teachers are not
comfortable with the 89, those that know what it is however).  It also
has advantages with Stats.

I have no idea why TI still has the 82 and 85 in their line-up.  The 85
lacks features every other calculator in production has like the Table,
Deep recall, text on graph screen.  The only reason I see to keep it
around is because it is about $20 cheaper than an 86 and is slightly
faster.  As for 82 on the other hand, it is the same price as the 83,
and I find no reason whatsoever to keep it around.

With the 89 out, I wouldn't be surprised if TI never builds a ti-87.
