Dividing Polynomials with remainders

In the Ti-89 book it tells you how to divde polynomials. However, when
entering the problem 5x^2-11x-21 divided by x-3 it gives me the answer exactly
as I typed it into the calc. Is this because this problem has a remainder in
the answer? The quotient is 5x+4, and the remainder is -9. Does anyone have
any ideas? I understand that this is a simple problem that can be solved on
paper, but I want to understand how my calculator works.

Thank you,
Joe
