86/85 programs on 89?

86/85 programs on 89?

As far as I can tell, the 89 is incompatable with 85/86/etc. assembly
programs because they use different cpu's.  Is this correct?
Ashell for the 86 is able to run 85 zshell programs.  Is a similar shell
possible for the 89 to allow it to run 85/86 programs?  (I'm trying to
determine if the 89 will be completely foreign to me if I buy it, as far
as existing programs are concerned, since I've only used the 85/86).
