Re: PROPOSAL: TI-82 "Enhancement" Project

Heres another idea. Why not make a completely new computer. I think that
it would actually be easier to make a new one than try to modify an
existing one (calculator). Also, since it wouldn't have TI's wierdo
hardware limitations, the available C compilers should be able to compile
for it. A 6 MHZ Z80 CPU (the same as in an 82, 83 85 and 86) costs $2.75,
add the supporting chips (serial i/o) for $2.70 and $3.00, a 640x200
resolution screen (with graphics) for $15.00 (or 640x480 for $25), a 64k
EEPROM for around $3.00, you'll need some other stuff too, but I don't
think it would cost too much more than a calculator. Actually, why not
use a faster processor, you can get a 24MHZ SC80C31BCP for $4.99.
I dunno, I've never done this so i may be forgetting something that would
make it much harder/more expensive than i realize.
Ideas?

Chris
