No. For one thing, since there are 2 data channels on the jack, you
would need 2 infrared devices running at different frequencies. Also,
the voltage is not correct for an infrared diode. Also, the link port
runs too fast for an infrared diode to work(I think). Also, there is the
matter of picking up the signals on the other end.
