When you enter y1, you 'run'; the formula (x^2). it'll use the x variable for the x in your formula. then it interprets (5) as multiply by 5. so what you are seeing is (x^2)(5), where x is whatever x was when you entered the instruction. to do what you want to do, you simply enter 5->x : y1
