Well, it sounds like you want an ellipse (flat on sides, round on top)
the standard form for an ellipse equation is
(x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 1
------- ------- =
a^2 b^2
In this equation, (h,k) is the center; a is the lenght of the verticle axis
(in your case, a^2 will be smaller than b^2); b is the horizontal axis.
