No, it depends on the amount of memory used. Specifically, the _number_ of
variables. Whenever variables are accessed, which is in most operations, the
calculator has to search through the Variable Allocation Table to find the one
it wants. More variables means a longer search.

Try going through your calculator and deleting a bunch of REAL variables. Even
though they don't take up much memory, the speed will increase dramatically.

The TI-86 may (very likely) have a faster algorithm for searching through the
Variable Allocation Table, so it may be faster in some ways, unless the memory
is very full.

Except the speed depends on the amount of free memory more then how much is
used up.  Why would it matter how much memory is used?

still works but I wanted a better calc)  The TI-86 feels faster and more
responsive then my TI-82.  Also the screen is better looking.  It also is
better then a TI-85 I used for a short time.
