Well, i do not have an 83, but the other TI calcs use the format :
SOLVE(equation,variable,lower,upper,guess)
where:
equation is 2X=4
variable: x
and the lower and upper is a renge to look for an ansrer..  (you calc may not
need these values)
and the guess is what you think the andwer is(or is close to)


so.. use the entry:
SOLVE(2X=4,X,-100,100,0)

this will solve the exuation for the variable X, looking between -100 and 100,
but starting at 0...
