I'm sure you had to turn the contrast up a ways when you used the NiCd's. They only develop 1.2V per cell, falling to 1.0V at the end of their life. So, you're short over a volt at the start compared to a new alkaline or carbon-zinc. --Jon jnieho38@calvin.edu www.calvin.edu/~jnieho38
