They cost $35 because TI wants to bleed you for all the
money they can :)
There are plans to make a "home-made" cable in the linking
section of ticalc.org. They're not the same as the ti ones and
you have to use different software, but it's not that bad. In fact,
I like the separate software because I can send files from a
dos prompt. You can't update your ROM if you have a 92+ with
the homemade (parallel, they're called) cable, but you could
probably borrow one from your school or something. If you're
a complete idiot when it comes to electronics, you probably
don't want to build your own cable. There are people that will
make them for you for about $10. I got mine from tybstar, and
it's worked really well for me. There should be a listing of
people who make them in the ticalc.org buy and sell section.
