what does the sprite look like?
my guess is it is "inside" this box:

%10000010
%10000010
%10000010
%10000010
%10000010
%10000010
%11111110
%00000000

you see.. you don't erase the _old_ spritelocation, you erase the new location.
if you try with a sprite that fills upp tha whole 8x8 square it will probably
not look like being erased in any direction.
Sorry for the delay.. didn't read your code until now..
this isn't the _only_ list I'm on..
