Re: A89: 'Remote Mode'

So its only for Calc to Calc links? Tell me if you can get this to work. This
is from http://ti89center.notrix.net then click Tips & Tricks. Its
somewhere on that page. This is what it says:
"TI89-REMOTE MODE:
Type this from the home screen:
[F5] [diamond] [APPS] [alpha] r
This key sequence is an undocumented, little-known feature that puts the
TI-89 into remote mode. (As a side note, both the TI-92 and TI-92+ also have
this feature.) Remote mode allows the TI-89's math abilities to be utilized
over the link port. In order to do this, start some sort of terminal
emulation up on the non-TI-89 side of the link cable. Examples of this would
be KTerm on the 86(?) or HyperTerminal in Windows with a Graphlink. After the
terminal program is started, connect the two calculators or calculator and
computer together. Put the TI-89 into remote mode by pressing
[F5][diamond][APPS][alpha][r]. Then try typing things into non-TI-89
calculator or the computer. An example would be to type 9 + 5 and [Enter].
The 89 will evaluate the problem and send an answer back over the link. You
can even do limited symbolic manipulation over the link! To get the TI-89
out of remote mode, disconnect the link cable and let the 89 sit for about 5
minutes, at which point the power management software will turn it off. When
the 89 is turned on again, everthing will be back to normal.
Thanks to Jeff Keacher"

I have tried that for quite a while! Is this considered to be "debug" mode
like the guy on the phone says? Also...could this be how VTI launches it's
ROM DUMPER program without you even typing 'romdump( )'? Or, i guess what i
should be asking, is how can a PC (or MAC) program start a program from the
TI-89. It seems like it would have something to do with the Remote Mode.
Well, thanks for the info on the TI-92 remote mode!
