This has to do with the edit buffer. Be sure to put away the edit buffer
before trying to execute a program that way. If you're woried about
_exec_basic, another way is to simulate the typing of the program and the
pushing of the enter key. Please search the list archives for how to put
away the edit buffer (Pat Milheron told Chicane how quite some time ago)
