Yes, in fact writing programs has everything to do with copying the ROM for
"programming research."  In order to write a program, you have to research
the ROM image either directly or indirectly.  In your case, your research
was done indirectly since TI did most of the work for you.  Yet, your
programs that you write are research dependent.  You had to do research for
your programs and therefore your programs themselves, indirectly, are
research.  So, yes, writing programs is research based and other programs
can be made off of researching your program.  So, the whole programming
process is research whether you like it or not.
