Yes, however since this is done:
   ld de,-1
   ld (_curRow),de
$4A33 does not display the number to the screen.

The reason why $4A33 is called is so that hl+1 points to the
zero-terminated string that is used in $4A33 to display the number to
the screen.  By calling _vputs, that string is displayed to the screen
in variable width font.
