A85: Variable types

Does anyone know how to change the variables type from $0c to $2c? I know
both of those are strings.

I know mem30 does this but I need my some code that does this with the
touch of a button for the Shell I'm writing to be used with Usgard.

Any help will be good I've been trying this one for 11 months now. I'm
stuck.
