This is true, but in the event of a dispute, the court could attempt to
prove that you "post dated" your copyright, whcih means you really didnt
have the copyrights until after the other ppl used them.  If you register
it witht eh us copyrgiht office, they know exaclty when you copyrighted it,
and thence know that you dint cahgne the date.  This is the most reliable
way to do it, because this too is a government agency, and the courts have
to take its word on a matter.
