Maybe the solution would be to give the programmer tools to check if what he
is doing is right. So that the calculator is actually not much more secure
but if programmers are smart enough they will use the functions and they
won't write to wrong addresses... Of course you can't force them to use
these functions but it would probably be the best compromises between a fast
execution and security against crashing.

There also should be a scripting language available in a later version (or
maybe a separate program).

I also think that programs should be saved to ROM and executed from there.
This would make the RAM free for variables, and files created by the user
(which are frequently edited).
