As far as I know not... I'm using the thing for over year now and no
problems at all. But you may better check the soldering once over.

You might also want to take a look at Tilp (search for gktilink.zip at
ticalc.org), it's a graphical linking program which will on Windows and
Linux.
The main advantage of the program is (I think) that it makes use of the so
called 'silent-link' (of the Ti83(+[SE]) and Ti86), in that way it can
"push" the program onto your calc. So without you selecting
"Link->Receive". For example: plug you calc on the cable, double-click on
ion.83g and it will be send to your calc in the background (at about
1.2bk/s).
