[A83] Re: ti83+se 2nd?

The TI-92 was banned from a lot of standardized testing, mainly due to it=
=20
(supposedly) having a QWERTY keyboard. I think the TI-89 was banned from=
=20
at least one test (either SAT or ACT), but I don't remember for sure. It=
's=20
been a while since I was in high school :) It would more than likely be =
on=20
their web sites. The applications for the tests should either have the=20
rules, or information on where to obtain the rules.

I don't know what diploma examination you are talking about. I would ask=
=20
for written rules for any tests, instead of just relying on what the=20
teacher states. For high school, at least in the US, you are pretty much=
=20
restricted to whatever the teacher for a class says. Usually a teacher=20
will give an overview of the course at the beginning of it, with the=20
requirements. If it doesn't have a specific calculator listed that you a=
re=20
interested about, ask.

If a calculator is not specifically disallowed at the beginning of a=20
course, and you buy a different one, then it's pretty much your own fault=
=20
if it's not allowed. If a TI-83 is recommended, and you buy a TI-83+ and=
=20
it's then banned, then you would have grounds to make a complaint. You c=
an=20
complain to the department head or school administration, but you have to=
=20
ask yourself if it's worth the trouble.

College courses are essentially the same way, but usually you're limited =
to=20
dropping the course if you don't agree with the instructor. You might be=
=20
able to transfer to a different one, but if you're paying that much to ta=
ke=20
a class, you'd better find out at the beginning about something as trivia=
l=20
as which calculator you can use. You might choose to just not ask, and u=
se=20
your TI-89 when a TI-83 is recommended, and hope no one notices, but you=20
are risking lose credit for the course, along with your expensive tuition=
=2E

It's like anything else in life. You might be right, but you have to=20
decide if it's worth the effort to pursue it. Remember, it's not about w=
ho=20
is right, but who has the most time / money.
