Icons Program Management System. 89 Edition Version 2.3

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:

WARNING Icons must be installed in the Main directory for the program to work correctly. This had to be done in order to keep other programs from corrupting icons when they change folders. Previous Icons programs could run programs in other folders, but if execution stopped and the folder was not changed back to main, system corruption would occur. Icons corrects this error by forcibly changing to the main folder. If you try to move Icons to another folder, Corruption May occur and the system files would appear in the main folder anyway. I know some users might not like this feature, but it was unavoidable and was the only way of fixing the problem without adding a lot more code to the system. Also, I have not tested Icons in an Archived state. I'm guessing that it will work, but I'm not sure.

If you are upgrading from Previous Versions of Icons:

  1. Ungroup the file icons.89g
  2. send the file icons.89p to your calculator
  3. run the GUI to make sure that it is working properly

To install on a Ti-89

  1. send the file icons.89g to your calculator
  2. run the GUI to make sure it is working properly.

Ti-92 TO Ti-89 CONVERSION NOTES:

This program is a direct port of Icons 5.5. everything that can be done in the Ti-92 version of Icons can be done in the Ti-89 version of icons, But there are a Few differences in the way the two programs handle. If you have used the Ti-92 version of Icons, You should read this section.

Wait until it scans the Icon and start drawing when the Crosshairs appears on the screen. Notice that there are two views, a regular view in the upper left hand corner of the screen, and a full blown view where you draw. Press enter the draw or erase. Press Esc to either Quit without saving or save the picture in the desired format and Exit the Icon Editor. You must draw something or the save function will not work. also if the name was invalid, a box will come up asking you to change it. Also remember that the icon editor will overwrite anything that has the same name as the name you typed in the name box. the icon editor automatically sizes the picture for best memory savings. The largest icon that can be made in the editor is 16x16.

Keyboard shortcut add-on for The Icons Program Management system (89 Edition).

WHAT DOES THIS DO?

Basically, it allow you to access the current Icon set without having to run the Icons interface, The keyboard shortcuts correspond to the exact position of the Icon on the Icons Interface. If you moved the Icon to the Lower right corner of the screen, You would use DIAMOND 3 to access it.

Think of the keyboard as the screen you see when you are running the interface. Whatever Slot the Icon Is on the Screen is the number you have to press in order to run the program.

If you have an Icon set which calls other Icon Sets, You will have to run through the Hierchary that you would have to go through Icons. For example lets say that you have an Iconset "main", with a call to iconset "games" Set up in the Top Middle of the screen, and in the games Iconset, you have "Lightning" in the upper right corner. and "return to main iconset" in the lower left corner. In order to access lightning, you would have to press DIAMOND 8 then DIAMOND 9, just like you would have to do if you were running the interface. If you run icons right after running this sequence you'll find yourself in the games Iconset, unless you press DIAMOND 1 before running Icons to return you to the main Iconset.

ERROR MESSAGES

since this add-on is not an integrated part of Icons, It does not have the built in error handling Capabilities of Icons. This section deals with errors you may receive when trying to use this system.

Argument Must Be a String: This usually means that the Icon Is not Defined. If you define an icon in that slot, it should work.

Program Not Found: You might have typed the Program name wrong In icons.

it runs the program for awhile, then an error occurs: The program caused an error

Basically, If it runs in icons without Errors, It should run fine on the keyboard

Icons Lite Quick Information

Icons Lite is a smaller version of Icons. On an 89 it really doesn't matter because you have 512K of program space to use, So it's recommended that you use the full version of icons. But If you want to save 3K of your memory, you can install this version of icons.

To Install

  1. Install the Icons Interface First
  2. send the file iconlite.89p to your calculator
  3. Delete icons from your calculator and if you wish, rename the file from iconlite to Icons.

The lite Version will

  1. access your files
  2. show your backround image
  3. run your screensaver
  4. have the error handling that makes Icons one of the most stable shells on the Ti-89

However it will not have

  1. the Icon add system
  2. the Icons Home Screen
  3. the Toolbar support
  4. the Descriptive text that tells you what to do if something bad happens
  5. the System Info support
  6. the cool looking splash screen :)
