Introduction

Math 86 is a suite of programs for the TI-86 Graphing Calculator that helps students get their work done. It is free for download but requires a TI Graph-Link®.

Important note: Be sure to remember that this is just a preview release (the first one, at that!!!!), so there may be a couple minor errors. Since this is written in BASIC, with only one tiny little assembly call used to power down your calculator, there is no chance that your calculator can be screwed up.

Overview

Components of Math 86

Math 86: A math program useful to algebra/geometry students of levels I, II, and III.

Features:

  • Algebra
    • Quadratic Equation (not finished)
    • Pythagorean theorum finding a/b, or c.
    • Linear Equation, finding, distance, midpoint, slope, y-intercept, and graphing the equation for you, automatically finding the window size (without overriding any drawings or graphs you had previously.)
  • Geometry
    • A variety of 2 dimensional figures; area and perimeter.
    • A variety of 3 dimensional figures; volume and surface area.
    • Calculates interior and exterior angles of regular polygons of many side lengths.
  • Misc.
    • Sequences, can determine the type of sequence based on three numbers entered. If it is arithmatic, it can judge the common difference, the number to the nth term, and the sum of the finite sequence, if you give it the last term. If you enter a geometric sequence, it can determine the sum if you give it the last term, the number to the nth term, and, if it has a common ratio between -1 and 1, it can give you the infinate sum.
    • MiniCalculator, a simple utility you can use to find the answers to small math problems. Useful for quick calculations.
    • Plugins; Math 86 comes with four programs you can edit that latch onto the Misc. menu. You can use this to create different utilities for one's own needs. The basic guidlines for this kind of program is inside the source code of each 'plugin' program; quite useful.
  • Menu Editor

You can use the menu editor of either the full install, or the Math 86 standalone full install to completely change the way the menus look. The manual for this has not been written yet, but it should be fairly intuitive.

Clio 86: A planner-like todo list useful as a substitute to a school issued planner.

Overview:

  • Supports up to fourteen entries, each entry can be almost infinate in length.
  • Ability to copy and paste tasks between other components of Math 86.

Project Editor: A project manager for the 86.

Overview:

The project editor can manage up to 7 projects. Each of those projects have seven items that can be edited, maybe outlining requirements for an essay, or the due dates, etc. Can also be used for a variety of other things . One can copy and paste these into Clio 86, or check each of these tasks off as done as one sees fit.

Full Install recommended Requires about 25k of free RAM.

Standalone Pieces

Important note: be sure to select 'yes' for each question the installer asks about which to install. Since this is a preview release, the installer has not yet been extensively tested. If you like, you can write your own installer and send it to me.
