I tried to update someone's TI-89 ROM, but forgot that I was using a modified rom unsigned by TI. It deleted his ROM, then refused to flash the new one. I had to take his calc home and flash it with my graphlink...

Things like the HW2 Patch, and that other program that increases mem on HW1s and Hexedited ROMS.

ModROM

Speaking of hexeditors, has anyone seen one that will let you edit the rom (hw2, v.2.05) on-calc? Maybe Mr. Hw2Patch will be willing to do something similar. using it, you could change the text & stuff. If you open your VTI ROM in Edit.com (not webpage, goto dos prompt & type 'edit') you can change the text. This would be cool to do on-calc.

Sounds like a very dangerous program.
For the 89, it is very possible with such a program to destroy your calc in such a way that it is impossible to upload a new rom, without removing the physical flash from the calc, reprogram it, and solder it back.

If someone was to write one, (s)he should at least not allow writing to certain low adresses.

Re: Re: ModROM

I was thinking something more along the lines of a "guided" editor, something which might let you change certain strings of text (like "tools" to "stuff" and "main" to "root"), as well as install new ROM vectors.
On different lines, has anyone seen a RAM hexeditor? This would be possibly more useful. How 'bout one that runs on HW2 AMS2.x? Those are rare.

Making a program to crash on most calculators isn't hard at all, just an exec statement with a random value.

Astounding! No one (not no_one) has voted for "No, I don't know anything about calculators". I'll just watch as people vote for that now.

BTW, I picked "Yes, I love breaking things...", although I don't "love" "breaking" things; I merely enjoy messing things up to confuse people.

I like confounding people. like:
open [2nd] mem
go appvars
delete mirage's appvar
you can then change their password and keep them from getting into the memory screen! (enabling Save the Whales will annoy them, too!)
I have an 89+ (kidding) and learned this in 3 minutes by myself.

Don't talk about dust-
The glue on the little rubber pads on the 83+ attract dust. I tried to clear the dust out by scraping it off with the blunt edge of a swiss army knife-
Now the rubber pads keep falling off.

my rubber pads fell off a week or so before the warranty expired. I emailed ti-cares@ti.com, and they pmailed me 6 replacements for fre();. I had to fax them my reciept, though.
I used a pushpin to get the glue out of the corners. I always carry an assortment of pokey things in my binder.

With strings, 5GB of RAM, all the functions that the TI-89 has, an internal clock, a port for external memory cartidges, anti-crash protection, a speaker, a PARADE! machine, and an incinerator.

Oh! Try this on your TI-82! (Yay) I found this out after viewing the TI-83 similar bug...

Press Y= and type {8,9,9,7,0,2}
[2nd]+[QUIT]
[2nd] [Y-VARS] [Function] [Y1]
[STO>]
[2nd] [L1]
[ENTER]
[2nd]
[STAT PLOT]

Okay, now even worse...
Change turn STAT PLOT 1 on, and change the type to the 4th type (the one with vertical bars), go back to STAT PLOT, and change it back to type 1 and turn it off. Then go to STAT PLOT and it looks REALLY WEIRD!
