I have owned my TI-83+ since mid August. I am a Freshman this year in high school and I have algebra 2 so I decided to get a graphing calc before school started. It was between the 83+ and the 85. My bro already has a 85 so I decided to try the 83+. It's a good calc and all I will need for a couple years. It is a great buy though! Any it is so much better to use a 83+ than then class set of 80's (maybe they are 81's. well they are the old style blue ones with no link port!). Not only does it have a bunch of good math stuff, I got other math programs, and some games if I have free time. It's also a nice buy cause you can start learn some programming! Guess I went a little off topic here, but oh well.

K yall... I have the Ti 86. I had an 85 but someone took it... my sister owns an 85 now. My 86 is far better then what my 85 was... i still havnt had a mem problem... its nice... when i started i got the 85... no games tho. took me about a month to spend the $40 on the link... but it was worth it. i would like the 89 but the 86 is good for me for now sorry for any spelling or grammer... i blame it on my wireless keyboard. If anyone is considering buying a link, I would seriously consider a parallel link (instructions & software on this page). It is easy to make and cost almost nothing @ Radio-Shack. As far as I know, you can get all the calcs w/link port to work with this link.

I've had my TI-83 for 3 years and my TI-89 for 5 months.

Is there a TI-89 hardware version 2.00? I had my friend's TI-89 and I checked his ROM version when I saw that it said "TI-89 Hardware Version 2.00". My calculator doesn't say that, but the calculators look identical. Is there a 2.00 version TI-89? I know that there is a ROM version 2.00, but a hardware version 2.00?

Right now there are two versions of ROM for the 89. One is version 1.00, the other is version 1.05. As far the advanced mathematics software, there is still only 1.00. Version 2.00 can be expected later, last I heard was sometime in 2000.

i bought my 89 in august 99'. my rom version is 2.03 advanced mathematics software. my ram memory is around 197,000 kb and rom is 700,000 kb. ironically i bought a 92+ december 2000 and the rom version is 1.05 ams. however it only has 170,000kb ram and 340,000 flash rom.

ROM 2.00 is coming out later. As for HW 2, I have absolutely no idea.

Hardware two has a 12MHz chip instead of the 10MHz chip on all of the original Ti-89s.

I can help you!!!!
Your calculator shuts down because one of your ASM programs accidentally changed the Auto Power Down (APD) to 5 seconds. You can fix this problem by getting Endive's APD changer, or by getting the Doors OS final beta 2. That has a built in APD changer. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what will.

I really don't think anybody with a new calc would be here, unless a friend at school told them, or they spent 1 hour in each search engine. Also, I got an 83 in 7th Grade, and now have an 86 in 8th grade. When is TI going to make an indeglo calc? That would be so nice!! Tell them to hurry!

Why would you ever need a 83 in 7th grade?? I had Algebra when I was in 8th and I still didn't need a graphing calculator, especially an 86! I have Algebra 2 now as a freshman so now I own a graphing calc but it isn't worth it for 8th grade much less 7th grade. Unless or course you got a lot of money to spend cuz I for sure will keep my 83+ for more than one year.

Who says we NEED em? I got an 83 in 6th grade and 86 in 7th grade. I'm in eighth grade now and I'm gonna get an 89! We never said we NEED em.. oh BTW, I took algebra in 7th grade anyway and I used it. In Geometry now, we don't use em at all. That's why I load them with games!

I'm in your position too!!! I also got a TI-83 in 6th grade. I'm now in the 8th grade (like you) and am a proud owner of a TI-89!!! You should get it. It's the best $150 I've ever spent in my life.

Actually, I don't just go out and get one. I got my 83 for my birthday, and 86 for Christmas! And, when I get my 89, it will either be for Christmas or from my money!

What the fudge do you think I did!!!! I bought my TI-89 with my own friggin money!!! I saved up for years waiting for something as or more powerful than a TI-92 but less expensive than it; and when the TI-89 came out I got it. As for that spoiled part, I admit that I am pretty spoiled, but at least I get straight A's and am in all GT classes!!!

I got my 89 for $125 and my 83 for $75, both through the school. I'm spoiled my parents bought my 83 in 9th grade (I'm a Junior now), but I paid for my 89. It's worth it .
