If the 89s are still allowed on the SAT, i won't even consider it. If they aren't, it is either between the 83 silver and the 86.

Dude, get an 86. 83+'s aren't that good. 86's have much better games and the layout makes so much more sence.

86 has better games and the apps slots for the 83+ silver edition isn't really that good (that's what it seems to me)

Seriously, consider the TI-83 Plus SE. It's going to be cool. Think about it! It's far better than the TI-86. With this new 16 mhz processor, you can make games that are better than the ones on the TI-86. And with the available memory, the TI-83 Plus SE is going to almost never run out of memory, making games to be able to be huge in size-- definently better than the TI-86.

May i remind you, this web board is html based.
unless you are using  ,( ) you cannot do it. (or a PRE tag)

a bit of advice... these calculators are becoming faster than our old computers. these zilogs and motorolas are ourdoing old CP/M machines (i.e. Sony SMC70). if you truly want power. get a biscuit PC, a M1 display, and a handy-key twiddler and leave a hole in your pocket. (info at www.arsrobotica.com, www.handykey.com and www.wearcomp.org)

one calculator should be enough.

The web board is HTML based, but we can't use HTML:

"HTML tags are not allowed."

From the middle of the <UL> (whoa, that showed up here) in tag on the post comment form. We're limited to ASCII, but it's not fixed-width.

I think the new TI-83+ Siler is the best thing yet. The 83+ is the BEST for the beginning programmer and also still good in the long run. I have had mine for 2 yrs and made many games which have NOT been posted on this site yet! I have submitted them, but they haven't been put up. With the TI-83+SE's new memory, you can run any game, including my new graphical RPG that will come out in the summer(If the site posts it) It will probly be run especially for TI-83+ Se and 86 UP. I LOVE TI-83+!!!!!

May I trake this moment to again remind you that there is only going to be 24k of ram in the 83++. Sure it's got 1.5 mb of flash, but that doesn't mean a damn thing when you're coding ASM, so shut up and accept it for the worthless pile of crap it's going to be.

If I didn't know better, I'd think you were a TI employee. Anyway, the 83+ SE will NOT have better games then the 86 for several reasons. For one, the 83+ SE's screen is smaller. Second, the screen isn't memory mapped. Third, the 83+ SE is still limited to 24k ram, which means 24k max program size (the 86 can handle larger files using ram page 1).

Ya, I love the menu set up on the 86.
It's way easier to find what you're looking for, and the 86 has those conversions which come in very handy.

Guys, the ti83 Silver isn't a colored ti83+
They have raised the memory, got a z80 15 mhz proc, plus tons of other stuff....

The TI-89 is better than the TI-86 and the TI-83+ SE. It still doesn't have the speed of the 68k processor!

I don't know how to say it... How many times... The TI-83, 83 Plus and the 83 Plus SE are the best for their purposes: Algebra 1- College. When you get to college (or earlier), get the TI-89. The TI-83 Plus SE does indeed have more memory than the 89, therefore, giving it more power and more accecory option (Periodic Table, Inequality graphing, 3D graphing, organizer, etc).

YOU ARE ALL WRONG
If any of you would even BOTHER to read the technical specifications you would know that TI89's have 4 megs of memory: 2 ram and 2 flash. So if you bared down the OS you could have up to 2MB Ram and almost 2MB Flash free. And there is no way to compare a z80 at ANY speed to a 68k's basic raw processing capability. THINK GUYS THINK!!! and hi Steve, hows school goin

I doubt that many people would want (or know how) to remove the 89 OS, just so that they could store more programs. In addition, if you strip away the 89's CAS, it practically loses all of its math appeal.

On my SAT, they are allowed because it is in the TI-8x case. The TI-92+ is not allowed because it is classified as a mini computer because of their QWERTY keyboard.

um.....a calculator just being in a ti8x case does not ban it instantly... contrary to what hackrman01 said.

and i would much rather have my current ti89 than a ti-83 being made with benefits that serve little purpose.
