Though I voted for hard case, technically what I got was not a *separate* hard case. I bought one of those kickstand sliding cases with the cool design on the front. Even after 2 years, I still get complements on it...

yeah i know what you mean- after a while i figured it was too nerdy to carry it in a special case, as there is no room in my backpack. Although I don't know why i care if people think im nerdy, they already know :D

throw - so not C, but also 'case' - so not C, C++, or Java (since none of them allow multiple-character character constants). I do not know if JavaScript has throw, but if so it might be the right one. If not, there are no such languages known to me.

Well, I've seen C do many evils things. Are you sure it won't just think "hej, that 'case' string is only four characters long, let's cast it to an int!"...?

None of the 3 allow "case default:" (they just use "default:" (& JavaScript does the same)), so I have no clue what language it would be (assuming such a language exists).

hmmm yes I know of no language that allows a switch on a string variable. But Fortran uses the "case default" wording, although it is not Fortran syntax otherwise (except the single quotes) and in Fortran its a select-case not switch. Hmmm... i think this one needs some work.

I think that TI designed the 84's and the 89 Titanium to avoid the problem with it falling out of the case is someone was to use it.

yea, one time i was walking down the steps and my TI-83+ fell out of my hand, inbetween the two flights of stairs, and landed in my basement, about 15 feet. The sliding case popped right off

We had TI-83+s and TI-84s donated to our school after the hurricane, but some of them do strange things, although I haven't gotten my hands on one of the messed up ones, I just stick to using my TI-89 Titanium.

This is why I like Flash ROM; no moving parts (correct me if I'm wrong) like hard drives, where a 2 meter fall could irreparably scratch the hard drive...

yes flash has no moving parts. but I think that if it falls hard enoughf you can crack the traces on the circut board or cause the chip pins to disconect. I think that laptop HD's are suposto sense when they are in free fall and park the HD heads so the damage is less

Most of the laptops made do not have this special feature, I have only heard of IBMs doing this.

All of the laptops made by apple dock the HD head if the computer is dropped.

Everyday, I am swayed even more to buy an Apple, but I have two Dell PCs that are working. I can't wait for Macintosh to be released to be used with other computers.

If you're waiting for Mac OS X to be released to work on plain-Jane PCs, you'll be waiting for a very long time. Probably after Jobs dies. Just buy a Mac.

Even better - install Red Hat! All the stability of Macs (as far as I know about Macs), it'll still run on your Dells, and it won't cost you anything.

I don't know about Red Hat, but Ubuntu is, so far, stabler than Mac OS X, but on a scale of about 40 hours vs. 1000 hours (respectively).

What do you mean by "on a scale of about 40 hours vs. 1000 hours"? Is that their respective capable uptimes? That's pretty low uptimes for *nix systems. I don't know about Ubuntu or OS X, but with Knoppix I've had over 80 days of uptime (I had to move the computer, else it would be higher), and with Slackware Linux I've had over 180 days of uptime (I had a power outage in the summer).

Yeah, my opinion exactly. Also no moving parts to wear out over time, or start disintegrating (hard drive platters sometimes do after years and years of spinning at those high speeds). Solid state is the best! Now if they could just find a way to produce nonvoilatle memory that has a density comparable to a hard drive...
