ti-86 overclocking
JackNomad Account Info

Well I have an 86 and I overclocked it, but not my 89. If you overclock the 86, you can actually make your programs run at normal speed with the prog. called slow. it slows down the 86 pretty well, and even if you turn the calc off then on, it will still be running.

Why don't you just add an overclocking switch?

probably because TI needs to spend more money on that, and that's probably gonna be another one of those "plus" things that they add to raise the price later on. And the "victims" will probably be TI 89, 73 & 86 calcs, since they haven't modified them yet.

I NEED A TI86 PLUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanna get a TI89, but my parents think I don't fully exploit my 86. But now in Algebra, we're starting to work with three variables, so a 3D calc would be nice... Oh well...
BTW: Yeah, I know, the self-proclaimed biggest math genious in the world (yours truly) is stuck in Algebra 1. Well, it's all my crappy school has to offer!!!!!!!! They even encourage us to use 83+'s! And worse of all, they use Macintoshes! Honestly, I need to move to a real school. Oh well, at least I have the highest math grade in my class, if not my team (a group of four classes). Ok, I don't want to get this deleted, so I'll say something relevant.
Overclocking is dangerous!!!!!!!!

No, I'm the self-proclaimed biggest math genius in the world. There are no 86+, but sooner or later TI will make one. Oh, by the way, where do you go to school?

I know who you are imitating, you're trying to be Brejnev(I don't know how to spell his name right).

I know there is no TI86+.
If there was a massive food shortage in the world, you would still need nourishment, even though there was none.
Catch my drift?
What would the extension for the computers files of the 86+ be? .86+whatever is too long, and .8xwhatever is taken. Maybe it'll just use .86whatever, or it's use .8ywhatever. What do you think?
Oh, I got it! They can use Flash Technology to allow four-character extensions!

As I was asking, what school do you go to and where is it located. You don't need a calculator to do Algebra 1, it's all mental math, but it's something to do after the 5 minutes it takes me to do homework.(I'm in Algebra 2) My school is stupid because they make us do Geometry before Algebra 2. Since my teacher was a B---H, and made us show complete work on everything, I almost failed since I do all my work in my head.

If you are the biggest math genius then the choice of calculator will be insignificant to your ability to solve problems. The biggest math geniuses I know don't use calculators :).

MY TEACHER MAKES ME USE A CALCULATOR!!!!!!!!!!! I can do the math in my head, but I have to have something to display.
I don't really want the TI89 for it's 3D graphing - that's just an alibi. What I really want is that cool looking Zelda game coming out for it. And the 3D graphing looks nice, too. Final Fantasy 17, baby!

That's why I like TI graphing calculators, they're as close to a game boy as you can take into your school.

I think I will buy that liquid nitrogen cooling system for my calculator. Now, the problem is how am I suppose to hide it under my desk so that my teachers don't see it.

I was able to overclock 5 Ti 86's without breaking them. I haven't tried my 89 yet. I just got it so I am kind of scared to screw it up. Give me a couple of months. Also, I did have a very hard time trying to overclock an 85, in the end I F'ed it up.

Z86MON

Why would anyone want to tear into their calculator? Most games already run fast enough, and I don't want to lose my wonderful '86. Crashes are recoverable, but bad overclocking can fry your calc for forever! Why take the risk of losing the $110-$120 you paid for the calc over a matter of game speed (calculators are for math, anyway)!

Actually, I always thought of a calculator as a thing to make math easier. I always looked forward to using a calculator and now that I can use one, Im quite happy with it. I don't see why you'd want to overclock it. Maybe if there was a big program that was really worth having on there that ran really slow.

I also see my TI-86 as a tool to make math easier...unlike you though, I am planning to overclock it for the extra productivity I will get out of it. Ever tried to graph multiple functions on the same screen at once and ended up waiting a full minute or more for all of them to finish? Has happened a good deal in the last week alone for me :( To make matters worse you have to let it finish (or pause and then powercycle)

I dream of a world where graphs pop up instantly, compiling programs causes a 0 second wait time, and the calculator *kudos to whoever can invent this one* does the math before I even punch in an equation.
