I guess that I use a TI-82, although I mainly use it as a test article because I usually can't see the screen.

I don't have a TI-82; the TI-82 is virtually gone. The only people I know who still have one are some of my teachers who bought into TI when their graphing calculator line was still young (last year's physics teacher even had a TI-81!).

That said, here's a new thought--what shell do you use on your TI-83+?

That's a no-brainer: MirageOS. or ION (if you don't want to conform to better programming) *end plug*

My high school has about 20 or so 82s that they let senior students borrow during class. They also let us use 92ii and 92+s. What's an 89? O_o

...Are you serious? You've never used a TI-89? You poor, deprived child. :) Check out the TI-89 link in the Basics > Calculators page, or you could look at TI's official site and see what they have to say about it. The TI-89 is a _lot_ like the TI-92+ actually, except it's the same size/shape as the TI-8X calcs. And since you've used a TI-92+, you already know how to use a TI-89. They're allowed on the SATs and stuff (I think the AP Calc test too...) because they don't have a QWERTY keyboard.

That's a stupid rule, and it almost always has been. By that rule, TI's most powerful calc (89T) is still allowed!

I think the reason the QWERTY is disallowed is the ease of typing...makes it easier to type out the questions, and that means easier to cheat I guess...

Makes sense...but still, why don't they do it by memory or processing power or functions or something?

I think the QWERTY keyboard makes it a "computer" rather than a "calculator" in their eyes, and you're not allowed to use "computers" (I think that's why things like iPods aren't allowed).

But of course, you can't use ANYTHING (but pencil/paper) on the AIME... :)

Last year in Calculus I, I used my TI-81 a few times just for fun (although I usually used my TI-86, until I got a TI-92+). This year I am in Calculus III, so the TI-92+ is (almost) necessary.

My calculus teacher has a TI-81. I wonder if he'll let me buy it from him. :-)

To educate newbies.

Are you fond of questioning things by invoking God's Name?

I say that because people get angry when I ask "Why the hell?" For some reason cursing is more difficult to swallow than taking the lord's name in vien. I often say "Sweet Hesus" (no typo), as well.

In my opinion, using God's name in vain IS cursing...although I know what a poor deprived human being you are and how influenced you are by the ways of the world, the devil, and the TI86, so I won't say anything ;)
